the speech therapy process.

Screening

We provide "screening" assessments which are an informal evaluation process to determine whether further assessment is required. If you are concerned about any aspect of your speech and language or swallowing function, a brief screen can be completed to determine if more in depth assessment is necessary. A screening is NOT a substitution for a comprehensive evaluation. A screening assessment will usually involve a brief consultation with the client to gather more information about their concerns and the difficulties that are being experienced.

We use a client-centered approach incorporating the most up-to-date and appropriate assessments. Treatment

Once the assessment this completed, the results will be compiled to provide a basis for what therapy techniques will be most effective. An intervention programme is developed specific to each individual child's needs using evidence based practices. Therapy can be home or clinic based, or carried out in your workplace by arrangement. A therapy programme may include one-on-one appointments, training and home programmes.

our expertise.

stroke.

Aphasia is the communication disorder that occurs following a stroke. This is a result of damage to the parts of the brain that controls language. Aphasia can affect any or all of the ways we communicate. It can affect: speaking, understanding, reading and writing.

swallowing.

Swallowing difficulty, or dysphagia (dis-FAY-juh), can occur due to a variety of neurological or anatomical diseases or conditions, including brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, head and neck cancers. Tall to one of our swallowing experts today!

stuttering.

In adults who stutter, there is likely some childhood stuttering that has continued into adulthood or has worsened with time. Most adults seek help from a speech-language pathologist when they notice their stutter has started to affect their personal and/or work-related activities.

articulation.

Articulation refers to clear, precise production of speech sounds. Imprecise, "sloppy" articulation can make adult speech sometimes difficult to understand or it can be distracting to the listener. The goal of articulation therapy is to give you a clear, precise speaking style.

accent modification.

It’s a common belief that it is difficult to change an accent when the second (or subsequent) language was learned after early childhood. This is not the case. Working with a speech-language pathologist can make it possible to improve pronunciation and be better understood.

voice.

Whether you’re experiencing problems with your voice due to chronic illness (colds, allergies or bronchitis), exposure to irritants (like Ammonia), talking all day at work, or even just from cheering at a concert or game, Giant Leaps Speech Therapy can help you get your voice back.
