The Speech Therapy Process


Step 1

Complete referral

Complete a referral form online. You don't need a specialists referral to access our services. You can self-refer. After your referral has been received we will allocate you a speech therapist near by - or one that you have requested. They will contact you to listen to your concerns, and make a time for an initial assessment.

Step 2

Assessment

We use a range of formal, informal, and functional assessments to collect a profile of your child's communication. Following the completion of our assessment, the results will be compiled to identify individual communication challenges. We will help you to understand why there is a communication difficulty. 


Step 3

Therapy

Our therapy programmes are developed specific to assessment findings and the needs of each individual child. We use evidence-based practices to get the best results for your child. Best outcomes happen when families attend sessions frequently, and keep up with their assigned home practice too.

Teletherapy is a perfect way of delivering our speech & language therapy services from a distance. It's easy!  And you will still get to connect with one of our NZSTA registered Speech Therapists with the same evidence-based interventions and outcomes. Teletherapy is a great option when you are isolated or facing geographical barriers. We can connect with you via your computer/device to deliver assessment and intervention - whenever and wherever it is required!

Free Community Advice clinics

We offer FREE advice clinics across Canterbury and Otago. As a parent it can be hard to know what is "normal" speech and language development. That is where we can help! Drop in and talk to us about any of your concerns. Our team of NZSTA accredited Speech Therapists can give you advice about your child's speech and language development and let you know your options for support and funding if this is required.
